Catholic mass schedule for Phuket

PHUKET CITY: While Christmas is little more than a celebration of consumerism for most people in Phuket, for the island’s small Catholic community – and many Catholics here on holiday – it remains a Holy Day of Obligation under canon 1247 of Canon Law, which states:

‘On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are obliged to participate in the Mass.

Moreover, they are to abstain from those works and affairs which hinder the worship to be rendered to God, the joy proper to the Lord’s day, or the suitable relaxation of mind and body.’ (Vatican website)

Catholics are advised that they can stay on the right side of the Law by attending any of the following Christmas Masses and related services on the island in the coming days:

Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Soi Taling Chan, Phuket Town

December 24, 7pm: Christmas Carols followed by Christmas Eve Mass (Thai language)

December 25, 9am: Christmas Day Mass (Thai)

December 25,10:30am: Christmas Day Mass (English)

December 31, 7pm: New Year Eve Mass (Thai)

(note: Soi Taling Chan runs west off Surin ‘Clocktower’ Circle on Phuket Road in downtown Phuket Town)

Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort (in Karon)

December 24 at midnight: Christmas Eve Mass (English)

Sheraton Grande Laguna Hotel, Laguna Complex, Cherng Talay

December 25, 10:30am: Christmas Carols (English)

December 25, 11am: Christmas Day Mass (English)
