I have lived overseas before, but I have not been to Thailand. If I was going to Korea, I would know what to do. If I was going to the PI, I would know what to do. What is the best way to approach Thailand. Where should I start my adventure so I can set myself up. I am a settled man and not looking for the night life, but want a woman in my life and a simple home.
You probably want to come over (Phuket) over a 1-2 month stay and see how it is for an extended stay that way you can really explore the island and find what location suits you best. Stay in several different areas around the Island to get a feel of each area, learn as much as you can about the area, take good notes (Keep a log), take video, pictures of each place you stay.
Look for activities that interest you; sailing, diving, reading, island exploring or what ever may interest you, there are many clubs out there that meet on a weekly or monthly basis.
If you can't get it all in on one trip, schedule another trip in the future, remember relocating to another country is a big move.
I'm retired US Navy (25 years), but I don't really call myself retired, I also do a variety of US Government contracts throughout the year in various locations around the globe, that have me away from Phuket from time to time. When I am home here I'm usually busy building web sites, Scuba, Kiteboarding and going to Phuket events.
